BMW to become title partner of Australian PGA Championship – PGA of Australia

The partnership sees the BMW Australian PGA Championship, one of two major golf tournaments in Australia, added to BMW’s global portfolio of premium tour tournaments, alongside the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth, the BMW International Open in Munich, the PGA TOUR’s penultimate play-off tournament, the BMW Championship, and the LPGA Tour’s BMW Ladies Championship.

The BMW Australian PGA Championship is scheduled for the Royal Queensland Golf Club from 21 to 24 November this year and is one of the most important tournaments on the Australian sporting calendar. The tournament features a lively party hole and spectacular golf courses, attracting record crowds as Min Woo Lee won the title in his own unique way in 2023.

Thanks to a joint agreement between the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia and the DP World Tour, the BMW Australian PGA Championship will once again feature a world-class field this year, with the best Australian professionals competing against an international contingent of competitors.

It is once again the opening tournament of the DP World Tour season and will be held for the fourth time in a row at Royal Queensland, the host venue of the 2032 Olympic Games golf tournament.

Min Woo Lee, one of the rising superstars in the golf world, has already confirmed that he will return to defend his title.

PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman said the partnership will take the championship to a new level, thanks to BMW’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

“We are delighted to welcome BMW as Title Partner of the Australian PGA Championship,” said Kirkman.

“BMW has had a tremendous impact on Australian golf and our PGA Championship for many years and this title partnership takes that commitment to the next level.

“The company’s commitment to excellence and innovation aligns perfectly with our values and we are confident this partnership will contribute to the continued success and growth of the championship.”

Wolfgang Buechel, CEO of BMW Australia, said: “BMW has been involved in golf around the world for more than 40 years and we are delighted to extend our partnership with the Australian PGA for such a prestigious Australian tournament, welcoming incredible Australian talent to the first major event of the season.

“From the US to Europe to Asia and Australasia, wherever golf is played and enjoyed, you will find BMW in every major market around the world.

“This is BMW’s first golf title partnership in the Southern Hemisphere and builds on our existing relationship as Official Automotive Partner of the PGA, Golf Australia and the WPGA.

“In partnership with the PGA, BMW will create engaging experiences across Australia where future-defining innovation meets a sustainable society and a shared ambition to grow and create unforgettable memories and moments.

“The BMW Australian PGA Championship will be a great platform to promote our electric future through our range of all-electric BMW vehicles that will be on the course at Royal Queensland.”

Guy Kinnings, CEO of the DP World Tour, added: “We are delighted that BMW has joined as Title Partner of the Australian PGA Championship. Over the past 35 years, the DP World Tour has developed an extremely close working relationship that continues to add strong value to BMW’s global commitment to sport.

“With this partnership in Australia, we are bringing together a truly iconic brand and an iconic golf tournament, popular with golf fans and players around the world. The BMW brand stands for luxury, innovation and sportiness – all values that align closely with our own, with both the DP World Tour and the PGA of Australia benefiting significantly from working with such a respected partner in golf.”

In addition to being Title Partner of the BMW Australian PGA Championship, BMW is also committed to the future of professional golf in Australia through its existing Australian golf partnership with the PGA of Australia and Golf Australia, which includes the broader Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, WPGA Tour of Australasia and the Australian Open.

The company also currently has partnerships with LPGA Tour star Grace Kim and DP World Tour player Elvis Smylie.
