Boks launch new battle cry ahead of first Bok Friday

South Africa Rugby

The Springboks have launched a new rallying cry as they seek to make their mark at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

During the last two World Cups, Bok fans used the slogan #StrongerTogether, which remains unchanged as an overarching statement of intent, but will be used in the future #MostlyGreenMostlyGold.

The Boks are asking South Africa to adopt the motto ‘Forever Green, Forever Gold’, to show the team that South Africa is stronger when its people work together.

The team’s hashtag #StrongerTogether remains unchanged as an overarching statement of intent.

The Boks are asking South Africa to adopt the motto ‘Forever Green, Forever Gold’, to show the team that South Africa is stronger when its people work together.

The Springboks won the Rugby World Cup with a team that included players with five different native languages. Now the team wants to emphasize this sentiment even more by asking South Africa to adhere to this principle and all that it stands for for life: “Forever Green, Forever Gold”.

The Springboks are making their first appearance in South Africa since winning back-to-back Rugby World Cup tournaments. The tournament will be played in the first leg of a sold-out two-Test series against world number two Ireland, starting in Pretoria on Saturday.

South Africans are being asked to mark the occasion on Friday, the first #BokFriday of the year, by wearing their green and gold colours to support the team and its message of inclusivity and optimism to the country.

These colours are not just the team’s playing colours; they represent the heart and soul of South African rugby. They reflect the enduring spirit of the team and its supporters, symbolising unity, resilience and pride.

“This new slogan is a commitment to an unwavering dedication to the sport and to each other as South Africans,” said South African Rugby Union President Mark Alexander.

“It reflects our firm belief that our strength lies in our unity and diversity. When we come together as one, we are very difficult to defeat.”
