Hopes that Kate Middleton will go to Wimbledon remain high among tennis officials

Wimbledon is finally here and the question on everyone’s lips (aside from whether Carlos Alcaraz will win again this year) is which royals will be present at the championships.

In recent years, everyone from Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton to Prince George and Prince William have been spotted on Centre Court to watch the matches, but it’s not yet known which HRHs will be seen in their best #tenniscore getup.

Before the prestigious sports competition, Debbie Jevans, chairman of the English Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, said Telegraph Sports on Thursday that she hopes the Princess of Wales will be present during her ongoing cancer treatment.

“We are hopeful that The Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as patron of the club, but her health and recovery are our priority,” she told the publication. “We don’t know what we don’t know. All we have said is that we will work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.”

As a result, the publication reported that officials have not yet decided who will present the trophies until the morning of the final, a responsibility that normally falls to Kate Middleton.

The tennis tournament would have been the second time the public would see the princess this year since she disappeared from the spotlight following her cancer diagnosis in March.

Last month, the mother of three made a surprise appearance at Trooping the Colour, but the palace reminded supporters that her attendance at the festivities was not an official return to royal duties.

“Her next goal is… to attend the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Law Tennis Club from July 1,” Fordwich said Fox News Digital last week. ‘As tennis’s most ardent fan and patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, she is usually present in the Royal Box to watch most of the major matches and later presents trophies to the winners.’
