The wrestlers announced are: Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborodudu (68kg), reigning African champion Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) and military world champion Hannah Reuben (76kg).

The others are reigning African champions and debutants Esther Kolawole (62kg) and Ogunsanya Christinah (53kg), while Ashton Mutuwa completes the list in the men’s freestyle wrestling (125kg).

The coaches are: Victor Kodei, Purity Akuh and Happiness Burutu.

Nigeria Wrestling Federation President Daniel Igali in his speech expressed confidence that the country’s wrestlers will perform well at this year’s Olympic Games.

“The athletes don’t go to Paris to participate, they go to compete. And if someone competes, it’s for the medals. We hope that if we compete very well, the medals will come,” Igali said.

The athletes and officials are expected to leave Nigeria for Spain on July 3 for a pre-Olympic tournament in Madrid, after which they will settle in Germany for their final camping spot before the Games proper.
