Wimbledon 2024: Day 2 schedule and order – Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Iga Swiatek in action

Wimbledon’s second day on Tuesday will see a number of superstars in action as tennis’s best stars battle it out for glory in the third Grand Slam of the season.

Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic and five-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek headline the second day, while 12 British players will play at the All England Club.

Top 10 players Alex de Minaur, Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev are also competing in the men’s tournament, while Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova also begin their campaigns.

Men’s Top Match – Vit Kopriva v Dovak Djokovic (2)

Djokovic begins his quest for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title on Tuesday when he takes on world number 123 Vit Kopriva.

The Serb gave up his Wimbledon title last year to Alcaraz, who missed out on a Grand Slam victory. If he regains the title this season, however, he could win as many titles as Roger Federer.

The 37-year-old Djokovic has had a difficult start to the season, failing to reach the Australian Open final, which meant he was on his way to an 11th title, and withdrawing from the last eight at Roland Garros due to injury.

He has not played since withdrawing from Roland-Garros but is ready to return to the tournament where he won four consecutive titles from 2018 to 2022.

Top Women’s Match – Iga Swiatek (1) v Sofia Kenin

French Open champion Swiatek, who won her fourth title this season in Paris, is chasing her first Wimbledon success and hopes for her sixth Grand Slam title.

Swiatek has dominated Roland-Garros in recent years, but her only other major success came at the 2022 US Open. The Polish sensation will no doubt relish the chance to add another Grand Slam to her illustrious list at just 23 years old.

Her first test at Wimbledon is on Tuesday against American player Sofia Kenin, who is 48 places below world number 1 Swiatek.

Swiatek starts the tournament in very strong form, having previously won the French Open, following earlier successes at the Italian Open and the Madrid Open.

British watch

There will be plenty of interest from home on Tuesday as Andy Murray is expected to play his final Wimbledon singles tournament when he opens his tournament against Tomas Machac on Centre Court.

Cameron Norrie takes on Argentine Facundo Diaz Acosta, while Jack Draper takes on Swede Elias Ymer.

Elsewhere, Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart will face Tatjana Maria and Zhuoxuan Bai in their first round matches.

Dan Evans is also among the other British players who will begin their Wimbledon campaign on home soil.
